Graphic works have been collected and stored in the Library since the beginning of the 19th century. Major part of the collection is comprised of old graphics (about 12 thousand items) that are dated between the 16th and the 19th century – artworks of Lithuanian, Russian, Polish and other European artists. Since 1969 this unique part of the Library collection was supplemented with modern Lithuanian graphics. The graphic arts collection mainly concerns graphic prints of modern Lithuanian artists, book illustrations, drawings, sketches, posters. It is also supplemented with works of foreign artists, ex-libris collection and author books. At the moment the holdings of the Department of Graphic Arts contain over 97 thousand works of art.
