The personal library of Joachim Lelewel (1786–1861), the professor of Department of General History of Vilnius University, was bequeathed in his last will to the University’s library. His wish was granted in 1926, after the collection was returned from the Kórnik Library (Poland). The collection contains many manuscript documents handwritten by Lelewel himself, as well as books covering geography, cosmography, history of classical and early modern periods, literature on numismatics and textbooks in various languages, fiction, dictionaries, encyclopaedias, and bibliographic publications. Besides documents that belonged to Lelewel and his close peers, the manuscript part of the collection contains his collected heritage of Stephen Bathory University from various people and institutions.
